Konispol

Konispol, seated at the very south of Albania, is a place where cultures converge. Just a stone’s throw from the Greek border, this town serves as the contemporary heart of the Cham Albanian community, with its residents primarily being Muslim Chams. Agriculture and viticulture stand as the town’s economic lifelines, reflecting a deep-rooted connection with the land.

As the administrative centre of the Municipality of Konispol, the town became part of a larger municipal framework during the 2015 local government reform, incorporating the former municipalities of Markat and Xarrë. The expanded municipality is home to a diverse population that includes not only Albanians but also Aromanians, Greeks, and Romani communities, particularly in the Xarrë area.

Konispol’s community is a testament to the multi-ethnic tapestry of the region, with each group contributing to the town’s unique cultural identity.
