Dajti National Park is a must-visit if you’re in Tirana and planning to stay here for a few days. Often referred to as the “Natural Balcony of Tirana,” the park is just a stone’s throw away from the capital, the perfect spot for a quick getaway.
Here’s how to make the most out of your visit.
How to Get in Dajt
The park is conveniently located about 25 kilometres east of Tirana. The most popular and scenic way to reach Dajti National Park is via the Dajti Ekspres cable car.
Dajti Ekspres Cable Car
The cable car station is located on the outskirts of Tirana, in the suburb of Linza. If you’re travelling by car, there’s a free parking spot right at the entry of the station.
You can take a taxi or use public transportation to reach the cable car station. Buses heading to Linza can be boarded from various points in Tirana. Check out the Porcelain bus, as it’s the fastest option if you consider public transport (a blue bus that departs from the centre of Tirana, near Skanderbeg Square).
Also here’s the Tirana Bus Map for reference.
The cable car ride takes about 15 minutes, and it’s a fun short trip where you get to enjoy the surrounding views.
A round-trip cable car ticket for two people costs 2800 L (around €28) or 1400 L (around €14) per person. Prices vary based on age group; additional fees apply if you pay for activities like Dajti Adventure Park or mini-golfing. Check out the opening hours on their website.
By Car
If you prefer driving, you can take the SH54 route from Tirana. The road is well-signposted and takes you directly to the park’s entrance. There are parking facilities available near the main entrance.
7 Things to Do in Dajti National Park
Here are some of the best things you can do in Dajti National Park.
Take a Moment to Enjoy the Nature Around You Fully
Have you heard that the colour green is soothing for the eyes? Research shows that just exposure to nature for a few minutes has a lot of positive benefits for your health. And what better way to recharge and relax than being surrounded by horses, greenery, beautiful paths, and flowers?
The panoramic views alone are worth the trip. However, if you’re an adventurous soul, don’t worry; there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained.
Hiking the Tujani Peak
To reach Tujani Peak, you have to first arrive at the top of Dajti Mountain (after taking a cable car or arriving with another mode of transportation). As a reference, the path you walk on from the cable car station should lead you to a field with horses, which is also one of the spots where you can enjoy horse riding if preferred. Walk past it until you find this yellow, abandoned hotel that will serve as a guide to the trailhead, which starts right behind it.
If you find difficulties finding it, do not hesitate to ask. Tujani Peak is a well-known destination in the area, and locals or fellow hikers will likely be able to guide you. You might even meet another traveller heading on the same hike.
The hike is straightforward, mostly shaded, and marked with red markers on rocks and trees. In total it takes around 2-2.5 hours to complete.
Adventure Activities and Sports
Mountain Biking
If you’re a biking enthusiast Albania Off-Road Cycling (AORC) offers a fun opportunity to explore Dajti Mountain in a fun, adventurous way. Known for their expertise in biking tours throughout Albania, AORC provides unforgettable half-day or full-day experiences for biking enthusiasts.
Horse Riding
In Dajti, you’ll discover horse riding activities where you can opt for either a short or longer path, depending on your preference and budget. The horse ride we went on cost around €30, and it wasn’t too long. However, I think it’s worth the experience!
Mini golfing
Are you into mini golfing? Just a few steps from the cable car station in Dajt, you’ll find the mini golfing facilities waiting for you to enjoy. This fun and relaxed activity is suitable for all ages and is a great activity to do with family, friends, or a partner. Before heading up, I suggest you ask the station whether tickets can be bought in Dajt or if you should purchase them when buying cable car tickets (at the first station, in Tirana).
Maverick Ride
Thrill-seekers can experience the adrenaline rush of a maverick ride in Dajti National Park. This activity takes you on a fun journey through the park, where you get to experience the views in an exciting way.
Visit Bunk’Art 1
A short distance from the cable car station is Bunk’Art 1, a museum located in a massive underground bunker. You should visit it if you’d like to get an insight into Albania’s history during the communist era. (For those interested, there’s also another museum, Bunk’Art 2, situated near the city centre of Tirana.)
Fun fact: I randomly found 3 bunkers as I was exploring the park. Did you know that Albania was once dotted with approximately 750,000 bunkers across its landscape?!
Picnic and Relaxation
A picnic in the park is a great activity if you’re feeling the ‘relaxing in nature kind of vibe’. Bring your own snacks and something to lie in, and allow yourself to relax while being surrounded by beautiful nature. I believe the ideal weather for a picnic in Dajti National Park would be either in spring or autumn—not too hot, not too cold.
Note: Beware of snakes. Not long ago, I saw this TikTok video of a girl who had a picnic in Dajt with her family, and she saw a snake in the tree right above her. It’s not exactly the kind of view you want to have…
Dajti Adventure Park
Adventures in the middle of nature anyone?
For families and those looking for some fun, the Dajti Adventure Park offers courses for different age groups with super fun activities to enjoy. These include rope courses, zip lines, and obstacles with nets. The level of difficulty varies depending on the age. On the way to Dajti Aventure Park, you’ll find a table with all activities based on age groups. You can check these as a reference before you decide if you’d like to try this adventure.
Enjoy Local Cuisine
I had lunch at “Ballkoni Dajtit” (Dajti Balcony’s), with a 4.4 rate on Google (⭐⭐⭐⭐), a highly popular restaurant in the area. The food was fresh, with a noticeable difference in taste thanks to the organic ingredients.
On the menu, you’ll find a few traditional Albanian dishes, which you can try if you’d like to learn more about the country’s cuisine.
The lunch accompanied by coffee at the end for two people cost around €31.
PS. The view was beautiful. I’m glad I found an available table near it.
Tips for a Great Day in Dajti National Park
Telescopes Don’t Work: As you take a walk in the area, you might come across two telescopes pointed across the city of Tirana, which require 100 L (€1) to operate. I was eager to take in the view, but unfortunately, neither was functioning.
Wear Comfortable Clothing: Depending on the activities you plan to do, make sure to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Hiking boots are recommended for longer trails.
Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water, especially if you’re planning to hike.
Check the Weather: The weather can change quickly in the mountains, so it’s wise to check the forecast and be prepared for sudden changes.
Respect Nature: Follow the park rules, stay on marked trails, and take your litter with you to help preserve the natural beauty of the area.
my thoughts
If you’re visiting Tirana and planning to stay here for a few days, I would definitely suggest a trip to Dajti National Park. It’s an experience that will rejuvenate you with refreshing and positive energy as you find peace within nature and explore new habitats.
Plus, there’s something to do for everyone. You like history? You can visit Bunk’Art 1. You’re a hiker? There’s a hiking trail that leads you to Tujani Peak, which is part of Mountain Dajti Ridge. And if you’re interested in other activities, whether adventurous or more relaxing, we hope you’ve found something that suits you in this article.
