Albania has some amazing natural hot thermal baths and natural springs where you can relax and enjoy warm mineral waters. Some of these spots have been used for centuries, and people believe they help with different health issues. But even if you’re not thinking about that, it’s just a great way to relax, enjoy nature, and take a break from the usual routine.
Here are some of the best places to visit when in Albania.
1. Bënja Thermal Baths (Llixhat e Bënjës)
Located near Përmet, these are some of the most famous thermal baths in Albania. The hot pools are surrounded by nature, and there’s even an old stone bridge nearby that makes the area even more special. The water is full of minerals and is said to help with skin problems and joint pain. Many visitors love coming here for a warm soak, especially in cooler months.
Përmet is known for its beautiful landscapes, traditional food, and friendly locals, so it’s worth making a longer trip out of it. You can stop by the Vjosa River, which is one of Europe’s last wild rivers, visit Katiu Bridge for some great views, or even try the local gliko (a traditional fruit preserve). If you enjoy hiking, there are some nice trails nearby, too.

2. Elbasan Thermal Baths (Llixhat e Elbasanit)
These thermal waters have been used since ancient times. Located near Elbasan, the water here is quite hot (around 56°C) and contains minerals like sodium, magnesium, and calcium. Some people visit to treat muscle pain, circulation issues, or skin conditions. There are also spa facilities nearby if you want a more structured experience.

3. Peshkopi Thermal Baths (Llixhat e Peshkopisë)
Peshkopi, in northeastern Albania, is home to another well-known thermal bath area. The water here is warm (around 40°C) and has a high sulfur content, so it’s recommended to remove jewellery before going in. Many people visit for the supposed health benefits, especially for arthritis or skin problems. The facilities are more basic compared to modern spas, but the experience is still worth it.

4. Blue Eye Spring (Syri i Kaltër)
The Blue Eye isn’t a thermal spring, but it’s one of Albania’s most famous natural water springs. Located near Sarandë, this deep blue water source looks almost unreal. It’s incredibly clear and surrounded by greenery, making it a great spot for photos and sightseeing. The water is freezing, so while some people take a quick dip, most just enjoy the view.

Why Visit Albania’s Thermal Baths?
Albania has plenty of natural hot springs, but many are not fully developed for tourism yet. This means you’ll often find peaceful spots without big crowds. Some places have basic facilities, while others are more organized, with small hotels or spa services nearby.
If you’re looking for a different kind of getaway, one that includes nature, relaxation, and warm mineral water, these thermal baths are a great choice. Whether you’re soaking in Bënja’s natural pools or visiting a quiet spot in the mountains, Albania has plenty of unique experiences to offer.
